As senior finance business partner for Estates and Locations Programme the successful candidate will lead a team of around 20 colleagues, providing expert financial and decision-making support to this key HMRC Directorate.

You will be part of an estates vision to be the best Estates department in Government, providing first class buildings and excellent services for our customers.

As the Senior Finance Business Partner for Estates & Locations Programme you will:

Lead a team of c20 Finance Business Partners; including talent development, building professional capability, and resilience and succession planningBuild trusted relationships with the Estates Director and other senior stakeholders in Estates and Locations; ensuring timely finance input to strategic issues and identifying early any emerging issues with finance implications.Contribute as an active member of Estates Directorate and Locations Programme leadership teams, including the planning and delivery of objectives, priorities and targets. Provide significant and influential contributions to the business’ decision-making process to ensure value for money.Support budget holders in managing their budgets, including use of challenge to ensure accurate forecasting, analysis to provide insight, and clear communication to senior stakeholders of their in-year position and any decisions required.Support Business Case VfM through working with budget holders to identify alternatives and opportunities, providing challenge to business cases, and quantifying costs and benefits both within the business case and in-year reporting of actuals.Ensure good financial practice and a strong control environment is embedded within Estates and Locations, including compliance with internal governance and controls and Cabinet Office and Treasury approvalsIdentify and quantify the financial effect of risks and their resultant mitigating actions and opportunities with their action plans to realise these as well as providing appropriate and timely escalations to resolve issues effectively, minimising business and operational risk.Work with Commercial colleagues to support budget holders in maximising vfm from our suppliers, including supporting in identifying opportunities for efficiencies.Work with colleagues across Corporate Support to ensure a joined up service to Estates and Locations, across finance, performance, planning, change management, and governance risk and control.Contribute as an active member of the Corporate Support Senior Leadership Team

Office attendance & travel

As a member of CFO Corporate Support you will be expected to attend the office for a minimum of 40% of your working week, with the option to work from home at other times.

You will be expected to travel to monthly SLT meetings which are usually held in Leeds. The agendas are timed to allow travel on the day.

The team that you will be leading is located across our Newcastle, Nottingham and Stratford offices and you should expect to also travel to those locations on occasion.

Essential

A successful track record as the senior leader of a sizeable finance teamOutstanding relationship management skills and personal credibility with senior stakeholders, combined with a strong customer service ethosStrong communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex technical issues to a senior & non-technical audienceAbility to identify at an early stage emerging issues with potential finance implications, and to work collaboratively with the business to progress even when some aspects are still uncertain.

Desirable

Experience in project or programme financeExperience implementing IFRS16.

Qualifications

Qualified member of an accountancy body (preferred); or part qualified and committed to completing the final stages towards full qualification
